The Community Services Section has been very active since its establishment in 1977 and to date the Council has provided as many as 37 community centres throughout the district. Through its Community Services Officer and Community Development Officers the Council provides ongoing management and advice service for the community associations within the district. This section also organises and operates summer play schemes, Community Festivals and year round entertainment and training courses

Arts and Culture are important elements of community life. Newry and Mourne has a wealth of artistic, cultural, historic and scenic assets offering a base for the development of Arts related activities which utilise and integrate these assets. Arts development is organised and managed by the Council's Arts Administrator based at the Newry Arts Centre.
