Enterprise Development Unit
The Enterprise Development Unit forms
part of the District Development Department within Newry and Mourne
District Council and provides an Economic & Tourism development
service to the area.
Alongside delivery of its Economic
Development Strategy (as outlined below) the EDU manages a host
of other EU and mainstream government supported Environmental Improvement
Schemes, Infrastructure Initiatives and Broad Regeneration Projects,
the details of which can be found within the ‘Economic Activity’
icon.
Enterprise Development Unit
In 2001, Newry & Mourne District Council developed a new Economic
Development Strategy for the area together with an implementation
programme. The Strategy is part funded under the Northern Ireland
Programme for Building Sustainable Prosperity, Measure 1.4, which
brings assistance through the European Regional Development Fund.
The strategy is based on a comprehensive review of Newry & Mourne's
economic and social position, based on the needs of the area, the
people and on the Council's access to resources.

Park which received support from the Council/BSP supported action
plan towards its Phase II and Phase III expansions.

SEED Food and
Fisheries Programme
The Food and Fisheries
Programme is an innovative new program which is being developed,
delivered and managed on behalf of SEED, the consortium of Councils
including Ards, Armagh, Craigavon, Down, Newry and Mourne which
are co-operating with each other to support food and fishieries
businesses in the reigon.
The program will help
you to:
- Develop your commercial skills in
areas such as sales, marketing, product development, innovation,
finance, people management and business planning.
- Address the barriers to growth that
currently face your business.
- Identify new business opportunities.
- Plan with confidence for the future.
This is a highly pragmatic and results-focused
programme which aims to help participants to survive, consolidate
and grow in a sustained way dispite todays challenging economic
