Entertainment Licensing
What
is the purpose of an Entertainment Licence?
To ensure that people
enjoy themselves in safety and in reasonable comfort knowing that
should an emergency occur, they will be able to leave the premises
or venue safely.
What
type of premises or venue requires a Licence?
Premises used for entertainment,
which can range from small halls to large purpose built multi-use
complexes, including bars, clubs, restaurants, snooker halls, leisure
centres and marquees. Venues include open-air musical entertainment
and street entertainment.
What
type of events require an entertainment Licence?
Indoor
entertainment:
- Music, singing, dancing
or similar entertainments
- Theatrical performances
- Boxing matches or exhibitions & similar sports
- Snooker, pool, billiards & dart matches or exhibitions &
similar games
- Video game machines
Outdoor
entertainment:
- Open-air concerts (whether
or not there is a charge)
- Events which have outdoor festivals, music, singing, dancing etc.
Occasional Licence:
- Premises infrequently
used for entertainment purposes (14 occasions or less per year)
can obtain an Occasional Licence.
-Applications for such
events should be submitted to the Licensing Section at least 2 months
before the date of event
Events for which
an Entertainment Licence is not required:
- These include garden
fetes, athletic events, religious meetings or services.

Premises capable of holding
not more than 100 persons----- £40
Premises capable of holding 101 – 200 persons----------------£80
Premises capable of holding 201 – 300 persons---------------
£120
Premises capable of holding over 300 persons-----------------£160
Licence for outdoor musical entertainment-----------------------£30
Occasional Licence-----------------------------------------------------£30
Licence relating to machines for entertainment or amusement in indoor
premises (e.g. amusement arcades)--------------------£50
