Postal Numbering

The Council is responsible for the allocation of postal numbers to all houses and buildings within their district.

Street Naming

The Council have the authority for the naming of roads and streets including housing developments and commercial developments. An application for approval to proposed names are required to be made to the Building Control Department. Developers have the opportunity to suggest possible names for the development relating to local geographical town land or historical features.

The following are the current criteria used by the Council for development naming:

· That the name should not be similar to the name of other developments, roads or streets in the area. If traditional local place names exist, especially Irish versions of these names, these should be used in naming new developments.

· That the townland name be incorporated in the name of a new development.

· That local geographical or historical features be used in naming new developments.

· The name of a new development should not, under normal circumstances, incorporate a person’s name.
