Newry and Mourne District Council Equality Unit encompasses the functions of Strategic Planning/Performance Management, Equality, Good Relations, Communications/Public Relations and Member Services. Its establishment acknowledges the Council's response to the challenging obligations being placed on local authorities through the Modernising Local Government Agenda, the Equality Legislation under Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act and the Human Rights Act. This forward thinking initiative highlighted the Council's commitment to taking the lead in delivering on these important areas of responsibility.

The Equality Unit is based at the Council Offices, Monaghan Row.
