Equality Unit Objectives

The overall objectives for the Equality Unit are as follows:

· To develop a comprehensive outreach programme with the Equality Unit having a very external focus.
· To promote proactively Equality of Opportunity and Good Relations internally and externally.
· To develop and enhance the Corporate Performance Management process whilst integrating this with Equality of Opportunity and Good Relations.
· To ensure that the Council continues to communicates in an open, accessible and transparent manner.
· To continue to drive the Way Forward Document.
· To continue to enhance the internal Communications.

The Equality Unit Strategic Plan details the key strategic priorities and actions for the period 2007/2008 and is divided into 9 strategic aims as follows:

1. To engage and consult effectively and develop a stakeholders profile of the Newry and Mourne District.

2. To provide quality, cost effective/efficient user friendly and accessible service.

3. To further develop programmes that outreach into the community to enhance relationships and build capacity.

4. To promote a common culture promoting equality of opportunity and good relations across the organisation.

5. To develop and implement the Performance Management Culture within Council to provide high quality services to our stakeholders.

6. To continue to positively promote Newry and Mourne District Council;
(a) within the district and (b) outside the District and reinforce its Civic Leadership role.

7. To ensure that all Council Communication is open, accessible and transparent.

8. To implement the Good Internal and External Strategic Action Plan.

9. To ensure a comprehensive effective service is provided to the Mayor/Deputy Mayor and 28 Councillors.
