Fun Weeks

The Newry and Mourne Grassroots Development Road show eased to the end of summer last week in Cullyhanna, South Armagh.

Together with Nutty Krust the coaching weeks were experienced throughout Newry and Mourne. 13 courses close to 400 children aged from four to sixteen, utilised eight venues from Newry City Football Club to Kilbroney Country Park.

This summer we entered into what we hope to be sustainable partnerships with local football clubs and community groups.

“By empowering the community we can offer coaching to many more children and dually encourage local volunteers to get more involved” said Malcolm Roberts;

“Take Cullyhanna for example. Although the numbers were small the children didn’t have to travel to Newry to participate, which historically has been a barrier.” With more coaches receiving Level 1 Awards the pool of volunteers in expanding. Therefore the different programmes the Grassroots Development Centre coordinate can grow.

And now summer is over the schools will receive coaching both in curriculum and after school.
