Mourne
River Soccer an exciting new sports initiative aimed at groups with
Learning and Physical Difficulties.
As part of the Grassroots Development Centre in Newry and Mourne,
Mourne River Soccer aims to provide increased opportunities for
young people to participate in soccer.
Playing, Coaching, Assisting or supporting soccer in the area of
special needs is on the increase and Mourne River Soccer hopes to
engage players and volunteers in a programme of events throughout
the year.
As more children
enter mainstream schooling we are committed to providing sessions
and training for teachers to deliver inclusive soccer coaching into
their schools and offer support for their requirements. Additionally
we will actively encourage all local soccer clubs to train a member
of their coaching staff in the area of Disability Soccer.
Mourne River
Soccer will aim to work closely with all clubs to increase their
involvement and their capacity to be inclusive of all our community.
Clubs are very supportive and have indicated several ambitions they
feel will enhance Mourne River Soccer as well as themselves as community
clubs.

Mourne
River Soccer has recently teamed up with Southern Heath Social Care
Trust to provide Taster coaching sessions at Newry City FC.
The sessions
“…were a great success” said Eilish Kilgallon
from the Trust who
Coordinated the two 1-hour sessions.
The participants
played small-sided games, 1 v 1’s, 2 v 2’s and received
skills coaching.
“The drills and the session on the whole was inclusive and
also instilled confidence in the players.” Added Eilish.
A couple of
the players have been asked to join the Gold Medal winning squad
from the Gateway Club in Newry as a result of their efforts.
They will join 16 members of the squad who will be competing in
the Belfast Cup on the 21st and 22nd June.

in Newry and Mourne, Mourne River Soccer aims to provide increased
opportunities for young people to participate in soccer.
Playing, Coaching, Assisting or supporting soccer in the area of
special needs is on the increase and Mourne River Soccer hopes to
engage players and volunteers in a programme of Coach Education.
Recently
an audit was carried out to gauge the numbers of clubs, schools,
players and volunteers with or without coaching awards or structures.
As
part of the audit we have offered teachers, group leaders and carers
to register their interest in our Coach Education Scheme that will
provide them with the skills and qualifications, to assist and deliver
events such as Mini Soccer and Holiday coaching courses.
As
more children enter mainstream schooling we are committed to providing
sessions and training for teachers to deliver inclusive soccer coaching
into their schools and offer support for their requirements.
Additionally we will actively encourage all local soccer clubs to
train a member of their coaching staff in the area of Disability
Soccer by holding Coaching Disabled Footballers Awards (CDFA)
Level 1 and 2.
In addition we will be offering the IFA level 2, Equity for Sport,
Emergency Aid and Child Protection courses.
Mourne
River Soccer will aim to work closely with Local clubs to increase
their involvement and their capacity to be inclusive of all our
community. Many clubs are very supportive and have indicated several
ambitions they feel will enhance Mourne River Soccer as well as
themselves as a community club.
Mourne
River Soccer in partnership with Awards for All Lottery funding
and Newry and Mourne District Council are pleased to announce that
we have been successful in winning a grant for Coach Education and
hope to offer assisted funding to successful applicants upto 20
places are available.
