Newry &
District Anglers Association
Newry and District
Anglers was created to provide 1st class fishing for the people
of Newry and the surrounding areas. Originally the club consisted
of both course and game fishing. Newry course anglers split from
the original club to pursue there own specialist competitive pursuits
leaving the the Game angling club as it now stands.
The club has evolved over the years to it's present format and welcomes
anglers from all areas. The club membership has been held at a reasonable
cost with no increase in the last five years, while still maintaining
quality fishing on the clubs waters. For further information visit

& District Anglers Association leases the fishing right
from Mourne Country Parks LTD. Formerly Kilbroney estates. The
club controls 15 miles of river from Newry Town to north of
Rathfriland.
The Clanrye holds a run of Salmon and Sea Trout which are closely
monitored by the Loughs Agency, it is the view of the club that
for conservation reasons migratory fish should be returned to
breed in order that stocks might continue to improve. The river
also contains a nice head of Brown trout all along its length.
All legal methods, spinning worm and fly are acceptable methods,
however the use of maggot is banned on all club waters. Day
tickets are available from the usual club agents. |

The
Mournes
Carlingford
Lough
Carlingford
Lough lies on the east coast of Northern Ireland and straddles the
international border with the Republic of Ireland.
It is a narrow
sea Lough surrounded by the Mourne Mountains and the Cooley Peninsula,
which are both Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Carlingford
Lough provides some of the best fishing in the Irish coastal waters,
with specimen fish such as the Irish record for the Tope at 66 ½
lbs.
Fishing
in the Mournes
Carlingford
Lough offers a great variety for the angler from great tope to the
more elusive, but extremely sporting, sea trout and bass.
The tope fishing
is arguably at it’s best from June to September and this area
has probably produced more specimen tope than the rest of Ireland
with fish well over 40 lbs not unusual.
There is also
the opportunity to fish the wrecks just outside the lough for pollack,
ling, whiting, codling, conger etc.
Around the edges
of the lough from Ballagan point south of Greenore to Cranfield
point on the eastern side there are a number of locations where
bass and sea trout may be taken. The fish will find herring and
mackerel fry as well as sandeels and crabs to feed on. This combined
with a powerful tide rip makes for an exciting shore fishing venue
although in some areas the rough ground makes bait fishing almost
impossible.
A number of
spinning lures and natural sandeels are effective, as is the popular
art of saltwater flyfishing. The use of floating ‘popping’
flies over heavily kelped areas can produce a bass or two where
no other method would be viable.

Warrenpoint
area
The area's many
rivers and lakes provide exciting sport for the angler.
