The Dorsy
The Dorsy 'enclosure' lies on the western
edge of the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and
consists of two roughly parallel discontinuous bank and ditch ramparts,
traditionally astride an ancient routeway to Emain Macha (Navan
Fort). Oak timbers from an associated wooden palisade have been
dated to around 100 BC, contemporary with a major phase of Iron
Age activity at Navan, lending support to the tradition that the
Dorsy was once the 'gateway' or 'doors' of Ulster.
